AFL fixture times across Australian states can be confusing because the official fixture is usually anchored to the venue, while fans search from wherever they live. A Thursday night game at the MCG, a Sunday game in Perth and a match in Adelaide all need different local-time handling.
FootyTonight solves that by showing AFL match times for each Australian state. The fixture itself still belongs to the AFL and broadcasters, but the viewing question is local: what time do I turn the TV on where I am?
Venue time versus viewer time
AFL clubs play across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. The official fixture time usually reflects the venue or broadcast market. That can hide the difference for fans watching from another state.
For example, a night game in Melbourne is straightforward for viewers in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and the ACT when those states share the same offset. The same game is earlier in South Australia and the Northern Territory, and earlier again in Western Australia.
Why daylight saving matters
Daylight saving creates the biggest traps. Queensland does not observe daylight saving, while New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT do. South Australia shifts on a half-hour offset, and Western Australia does not observe daylight saving. That means a search result copied from Sydney or Melbourne can be wrong for Brisbane or Perth during summer months.
How FootyTonight displays AFL times
The /afl/fixtures page lets you read the draw by league, while each match page is built around the practical viewing answer: local kickoff, venue, channel and streaming options. The state selector keeps the same match but changes the time display to your chosen location.
What to check before game day
Broadcast windows can change around floating rounds, finals and special events. Use FootyTonight for a quick independent guide, then verify late changes with the AFL or broadcaster if you are planning travel, tickets or a watch party. For coverage options, pair the fixture page with /afl/how-to-watch.
